RE: B&W 5th Wheel Companion

I had to leave for a while and when I returned all my questions were answered. Thanks a million guys. I CAN DO THIS. If the installer had given me the directions/manual in the first place, I wouldn't have traveled over 3000 miles with the hitch installed wrong. I'll have tell the DW that truly must be living right. Especially with the bumpy road we have in La. I-55 is horrible. Again guys...THANK YOU!!!! Steve A. Dagro

B&W 5th Wheel Companion

Anyone out there with a B&W 5th Wheel Companion? This is my story. Bought a new truck in Dec''08 and dealer had the hitch put in. No manual given. Been working fine. Yesterday I decided to email the manufacturer to get the 2 page manual to find the lubrication points. As I was reading the removal/replace section, I discovered my hitch didn't look like the one in the pics. Diagram shows/says the RV post when installed correct should have 1/4-1" gap between the top of the rv post and the hitch base where the draw down screw goes. Mine is flush up against the rv post. Also says that when base is installed correctly the pull pen in the tire well should not dis-engage. Mine does. Could the installer have used the wrong hole on the rv post and thats whats making it ride too high?? Just trying to figure it out without removing the entire hitch. I know its pretty simple, but I am mechanically challenged to say the least. I await someones speedy reply. We are leaving on a weekend trip tomorrow evening.
Steve A. Dagro
P.S. I have logged 6 trips and some 3200 miles with no problems. But now I know about the problem and paranoid. Am I over-reacting?? To many things can go wrong that you can't control, I hate to do some bonehead thing and do major damage.

RE: CG's in LA or MS?

Best bet for overnight would be Lakeside in Livingston,LA. 1 mile off of
I-12. Pool, 17 acre lake. Lots of concrete and little shade. Super clean park. We've stayed there a couple of times just for a quick get away. Tickfaw SP is probably 10 miles off of I-12. Also a small campground in Hammond,LA Used to be a KOA but changed owners recently/ Have to take 1-12 to I-55 South to US 51. Take left @ 1st traffic light, cross over I-55 next to Catfish Charlie's Seafood & Steaks. Hope this helps. Steve A. Dagro

RE: Think We're Going Back

Must be a small 5ver or you were pulling down hill a lot to get 14-16MPG towing. I think I'll stick to my quiet Duramax and get 11MPG. Steve A. Dagro

RE: Let's talk bike racks some more.

After bending my ladder with my 2 mountain bikes I put the ladder rack in the "RECYCLE BIN". Went to Camping World and bought a 2 bike bumper rack that mounts in 2 places on the bumper. This one has 2 brackets on each end for the front & rear tires to slide in for each bicycle. Not sure of the model #. Hope this helps. Steve A. Dagro

RE: costly mistake. 5 wheelers please read.

I've been an RVer for 2 1/2 yrs. I always do a pull test. I just leave my large wheel chocks down until I perform the test. I have had several weird looks as to "what is this guy doing" OR "you forgot the chocks" yelled at me. I then tell them what I'm doing and get a really dumb look. I have a B&W with the 5ver companion. It may fail me tomorrow but it seems virtually impossible to pull away with it unlatched. JMOA.

Surf Fishing in Gulf Shores??

Been going to Gulf Shores twice a yr for m3 yrs now and interested in doing some surf fishing. Saw a few trying it a few weeks ago but seem to be of the REAL TOURIST TYPE. The 10 ft Wal-mart rod with a base as big as a broom handle and a spinning real big enough to land a tuna. Want to try some light tackle type fishing. I noticed an army of fishermen at night at the pier/seawall in Orange Beach. Not sure I want to brave that. I had a bay boat and fished regularly out of SE Louisiana marsah before a BIT$# named Katrina took our Houseboat away. Sold the boat 2 months ago and just now ready to wet a line. Any help will be greatly appreciated...Steve A. Dagro

RE: GULF SHORES, ALABAMA

LA-BOY
From the Anchors Aweigh ads and their website the place looks nice, your wife will love it since it's close to the Outlet Mall. If you're a golfer you'll be in heaven most anywhere in that area.
I agree with Norm on Luxury RV, used to go several times a yr., nice place and you can walk to lots of things including the beach. We haven't been back to Gulf Shores since Ivan, been going West to altitude and coolness but are going back again in July.
Doing things lots closer to home.
Norm
Reading your posts over several yrs. just didn't take you for a FloraBama fan.
For the rest of you. Great place, supposedly straddles the state line, rated one of the best Honky-Tonks in the country, on the beach with about +-4 bars (which are all in Fla. by the way due to Bama's Sunday blue laws). Summer Saturday and Sunday afternoons have numerous bands in different parts of the place. Millionaire Yuppies to Old Hippy Bikers and everything in between is the crowd, gets sort of rowdy but seldom any problems.
Dave
Hi Dave,

RE: MS Gulf Campgrounds

Majestic Oaks on Pass Rd.Biloxi/Gulfport is probably the nicest one and closest to the beach and Casinos. Most of the others are near I-10. Nicely landscaped new park. Sites seem kinda tight but bearable. Steve A. Dagro

RE: the must eat places near topsail in florida?

I vote Capt. Dave's on the Gulf. Also take Hwy 98 East of campground to a strip mall on left. Has a great Pizza place. Can't remember the name. Watched the Super Bowl there during our Mardi Gras stay last Feb. Steve A. Dagro

We went there for 5 days at Christmas. Simply beautiful.Had 2-4 " of snow which made it even better. Just enough to change the scenery but not too much to hender getting around. The lookout ws also gorgeous. We want to make a spring trip one day. Steve A. Dagro

RE: Luxury RV park, Gulf Shores, AL

Hi,
Have you noticed any awnings with tie downs? We want to bring our add a room.
Shouldn't be a problem. There are several rvs with sunscreens attached to awning with tiedowns. Actually there was someone in the park Saturday selling some really nice awning sunscreens. Unfortunately we were gone when he came thru. several people bought them. ADDITIONALLY: Shrimp Basket/Mon & Thurs.A.U.C.E. Fish/$7.99 Sun & Wed. A.U.C.E. Shrimp/$9.99.
Unfortunately our grilled shrimp in basil/butter/garlic were better than the LSU/UNC game last night. C'EST BON!!!

RE: Galveston Island RV Resort?

Been away from computer for a while. We have reservations @ Jamaica Beach from June 29 thru July 8th. Hope to do Johnson Space Center, the dinner cruise on the Colonel and Moody Gardens. Not the water park type so we probably won't due that. If any of you have some personal favorites please share them with us. Will probably spend a 1/2 day or so at The Strand. Thanks in advance Steve A. Dagro

RE: Branson, Mo.

Hey Charlie O,
We might be downsizing our trip again. Maybe Galveston,TX. This fuel thing is getting ridiculous. I think I'd rather take 2 or 3 short trips this summer than spend it all on one longer one. Its a damn shame we work to buy the rigs then damn near have to get a second job to use them. On a side note I heard a N.O radio talk show host say today" HOW IS IT WE CAN PUT AN UNMANNED SPACECRAFT ON MARS----SOME 400 MILLION MILES(??) AWAY, SUCCESSFULLY BUT WE CAN NOT COME UP WITH AN ALTERNATIVE FUEL" Something to think about............Steve A. Dagro
